Lancaster City Schools
Mission Statement
The mission of Lancaster
City School is to prepare students of ll ages to meet academic,
social, civic, cultural, and employment needs of the 21st
century.
Athletic Department Philosophy
Lancaster City School has a
vision of a community focused on student achievement. The
participation in athletics by our students promotes that vision. Our athletic
programs will develop their athletic skills, encourage a student to be
a good citizen, challenge their intellectual skills, and teach the value
of teamwork. Athletics are not separate from the educational process,
but rather an integral part of it. The lessons learned on the fields and
courts are lessons in competition, sacrifice, teamwork, and goal setting.
These lessons remain with a student for a lifetime.
The Athletic Department is
committed to developing successful athletic programs. The programs are
committed to providing a challenging, competitive environment in which
the ideals of sportsmanship, personal integrity, moral character, and
teamwork are stressed while the opportunity for a student-athlete to develop
their athletic skills to their fullest potential exists. Participation
in athletics will always be more than a team's won-loss record.
"Upon
the fields of friendly strife are sewn the seeds that on other fields
on other days will bear the fruits of victory." -
General Douglas MacArthur.

Bowdish - Athletic Department
"On the
fields of friendly strife are sown the seeds, that on
other fields, on other days will bear the fruits of
victory.” These words by General Douglas Macarthur
still ring true in high school athletic competition
today. The many lessons learned on the playing fields
and in the gyms by our high school athletes will play
an enormous role in their understanding of the value
of teamwork, the intensity of competition, the satisfaction
of victory, and the disappointment of defeat. What they
learn from high school athletics will remain with them
throughout their lives.
We
expect our student athletes to play hard and display
good sportsmanship and to congratulate an opponent on
a hard fought contest in victory or defeat. We expect
our parents and fans to respect the efforts by the athletes
and support them with enthusiastic and positive encouragement.
Enjoy the competitive environment and cheer long and
loud. Good things happen when you HUSTLE! GO GALES!
Denise Callihan
- Superintendent
Welcome to the Lancaster City
Schools. Our District has a rich heritage of academic,
co-curricular, and athletic success. The lessons learned
through participation, teamwork, and competition last
a lifetime. Our student-athletes and coaches devote
countless hours in practice and training to positively
represent their school and community. It is with great
pride we salute their efforts and encourage all members
of the community to support and attend school events.
My personal best wishes for a truly satisfying season.
Steve Wigton - Principal
On behalf of Lancaster
High School, I welcome you. Our athletic program is
a result of the culmination of resolve and dedication
of parents, community members, businesses, players and
coaches to raise funds for the entire fall sports season.
In this respect, our athletic teams and marching band
truly represent the Lancaster community and its school
system. Thank you to all who are helping to provide
the funds for our students to participate in athletics
and marching band. I am confident that our athletes
and musicians will provide a performance of which we
can all be proud.
