May 15, 2007 - DISTRICT TOURNAMENT
Lancaster 3 Olentangy 5

Lancaster 003, 000, 0, 3-7-1
Olentangy 320, 000, 0, 5-7-2
Lan: Curry, Swinehart (5) and Stoughton. Olen: Meade and Sobieray. WP: Meade. LP: Curry (6-2). Lancaster Final Record: 19-8. Lancaster was not able to muster enough offense to overcome a tough Olentangy team. Ryan Curry and Dane Swinehart pitched well after the first two innings but the Gales could not get the key hit they needed to pull out the victory. Jason Hutchison continued his hot hitting by having two hits, while five other Gales added hits. The loss ended a great season and the tremendous careers of nine seniors who were able to chart a new course for the Lancaster Baseball Program with a 39-16 record over the past two seasons. Their effort on the field and in the class room has set the standard for future Golden Gale Baseball Players. Coach Smeltzer would like to thank the nine seniors and their families for the special times he has had the privilege of sharing with them over the past three seasons.

May 10, 2007 - SECTIONAL FINAL
Lancaster 4 Mount Vernon 3

Lancaster 040, 000, 0, 4-6-0
Mount Vernon 000, 003, 0, 3-4-1
Lan: Swinehart and Stoughton. MV: Calland and Short. WP: Swinehart (5-3). LP: Calland. Lancaster Record: (19-7). Lancaster won the sectional championship in a loud and wild game versus Mt. Vernon. Dane Swinehart pitched a great game giving up only four hits while striking out nine in order to pick up the win versus the Yellow Jackets. At the plate, six Gales picked up hits, four of them coming in the four-run fourth. In the second inning, Collin Miller reached on a single and Ryan Curry was hit by a pitch and were brought home on a triple by Kenny Harlan. Ty Evans brought home Harlan with an RBI single, and Jason Hutchison's single and score on a passed ball wrapped up enough run support for Swinehart. The Gales will play at Grove City in the District Semi-Finals on Tuesday May 15 at 2:00 against Olentangy.

Lancaster 8 Zanesville 12
Lancaster 002, 221, 1, 8-12-6
Zanesville 210, 450, 0, 12-12-1
Lan: Blankenship, Roshon (5) and Stoughton. Zane: Hudson, Kaido (5) and Miller. WP: Hudson. LP: Blankenship. Lancaster Record: 18-7. Lancaster continued to give games away by committing six errors in a loss to a tough Zanesville squad. Jason Hutchison (home run), Ryan Curry (2 hits), Kyle Studer (2 hits) led the Gales in totaling 12 hits, but it was not enough to overcome the poor defensive performance.

May 5, 2007
Lancaster 5 Pickerington North 17
Lancaster 005, 00*, *, 5-8-5
Pickerington North 271, 34*, *, 17-14-1
Lan: Swinehart, Jenkins (3) and Stoughton. PN: Podolak and A. Bayer. WP: Podolak. LP: Swinehart (4-3). Lancaster Record: 18-6. Lancaster ran into an offensive juggernaut as Pickerington North pounded out 14 hits. Those hits coupled with five errors led to Lancaster's first time being run-ruled in two years. Kyle Stoughton and Dane Swinehart helped pace the Gales at the plate, but it was not enough to keep the game close.

May 3, 2007
Lancaster 4 St. Charles 7
Lancaster 211, 000, 0, 4-10-5
St. Charles 300, 040, 0, 7-10-3
Lan: Blankenship, Hutchison (5), Roshon (6), Stoughton (7) and Stoughton, Hardy (7). St. C: Francescon, Byorth (7) and Vesco. WP: Francescon. LP: Blankenship. Lancaster Record: 18-5. Lancaster stumbled around in the field and dropped a non-league game to St. Charles. Collin Miller and Dane Swinehart led the Gales at the plate with three hits, but the offensive effort was not enough to overcome five errors.

May 2, 2007
Lancaster 8 Westland 1
Lancaster 001, 222, 1, 8-14-2
Westland 000, 010, 0, 1-5-0

Lancaster used a strong pitching performance by Jared Strickland and the hot-hitting of Dane Swinehart (3 hits), Ty Evans (3 hits), Jason Hutchison (2 hits), and Kenny Harlan (2 hits) to beat Westland. With the win, the Gales claim second place in the OCC behind Hilliard Darby.

May 1, 2007

Newark 200, 100, 0, 3-7-2
Lan: Curry and Stoughton. New: Nutter, Goddard (7) and McCoy. WP: Curry (6-1). LP: Nutter. Lancaster Record: 17-4 (6-3 in the OCC). Lancaster played a miserable first six innings, but was able to get the bats going in the seventh to knock off league-rival Newark. Ryan Curry continued to be a steady force for the Gales by tossing a complete game gem striking out six and only walking one. In the seventh, the Gales led by Jason Hutchison, Sean Gorby, Kyle Stoughton, Collin Miller and Ty Evans exploded for five runs to get the victory.

April 30, 2007
Lancaster 9 Gahanna 8

Lan: Swinehart and Stoughton. Gah: Lockett, Shapaka (3) and Lydic. WP: Swinehart (4-2). LP: Lockett. Lancaster Record: 16-4 (5-3 in OCC). Lancaster battled through to a win in a tough contest with league-rival Gahanna. Dane Swinehart gutted out the victory on the mound and also had two hits for the Gales. Sean Gorby, Collin Miller, and Jason Hutchison also had two hits in the winning effort. Hutchison hit his first home run of the season to help extend the lead in the fifth inning.

April 28, 2007
Lancaster 9 Thomas Worthington 8
Lancaster 030, 023, 01, 9-10-1
Thomas Worthington 400, 004, 00, 8-14-4
Lan: Strickland, Curry (6) and Stoughton. TW: Fuller, Schriver (2), Harned (6), Kegler (6) and Aledia, Haunty (3). WP: Curry (5-1). LP: Kegler. Lancaster Record: 15-4. Jared Strickland settled down to pitch a great game after a rough first inning, and he received help from Ryan Curry to knock of Thomas Worthington in eight innings. The Gales fought back with the help of Ty Evans (2 hits including the walk-off RBI single in the eighth), Dane Swinehart (3 hits), and Collin Miller (2 hits) in order to pick up a great victory versus the Cardinals. With their effort and dedication, the Gales earned the third seed (out of 38 teams) for the upcoming Central District Tournament and will play the winner of Mount Vernon and Brookhaven on Thursday May 10 at 5:00PM at Beavers Field.

Lancaster 5 Westerville North 4
Lancaster 010, 004, *, 5-7-3
Westerville North 202, 000, 0, 4-3-0
Lan: Hutchison, Swinehart (7) and Stoughton. WN - Tucker and Hale. WP: Hutchison (3-0). LP: Tucker. Save: Swinehart. Lancaster Record: 14-4. Lancaster battled back from an early deficit as Jason Hutchison settled down and pitched a gem, while Dane Swinehart came on to pick up his first save of the season. In order to hold of the Warriors, the Gales grinded out four runs in the sixth with the help of some passed balls and timely hits by Jared Strickland, Ty Evans and Kyle Stoughton.

April 23, 2007
Lancaster 0 Hilliard Darby 1
Lancaster 000, 000, 00, 0-4-5
Hilliard Darby 000, 000, 01, 1-5-0
L: Swinehart and Stoughton. HD: Sparks and Everman. WP: Sparks. LP: Swinehart (3-2). Lancaster Record: 13-4 (4-3 in the OCC). Hilliard Darby got the best of the Gales in a great OCC showdown where Sparks and Swinehart battled through eight innings. The Panthers secured the win on a tough fly ball that plated the winning run and gave Darby the edge for the OCC crown.

April 21, 2007
Lancaster 4 Worthington Kilbourne 3
Lancaster 000, 201, 001, 4-10-0
Worthington Kilbourne 002, 000, 100, 3-5-0
L: Blankenship, Curry (7) and Stoughton. WK: Grimm, Reik (4), Meador (6) and Petke. WP: Curry (4-1). LP: Meador. Lancaster Record: 13-3. Lancaster persevered in battle with a tough Worthington Kilbourne team and pulled out a victory in the ninth inning thanks to a great pitching performance by Shawn Blankenship and Ryan Curry. The Gales were led by Jared Strickland (3 hits including game-winning RBI), Sean Gorby (2 hits), and Kyle Studer (2 hits).

April 21, 2007
Lancaster 4 Pickerington Central 3
Lancaster 011, 011, *, 4-4-2
Pickerington Central 000, 001, 2, 3-7-3
L: Hutchison, Stoughton (7) and Stoughton, Hardy (7). PC: Walter, Keller (6) and Hess. WP: Hucthison (2-0). LP: Walter. Lancaster Record: 12-3. Lancaster took on rival Pickerington Central in a Saturday game at Beavers Field. Jason Hutchison led the Gales on the mound to get the win, as Kyle Stoughton came in to get the final three outs (including a two-out strike out with the tying run on third) to pick up the save. Lancaster's bats cooled off a little with only four Gales getting hits, but Ty Evans sacrifice fly and Sean Gorby's single solidified the win.

April 20, 2007
Lancaster 6 Western Reserve Academy 2
Lancaster 060, 000, *, 6-4-1
Western Reserve 000, 200, 0, 2-6-2
L: Jenkins, Roshon (7), Swinehart (7) and Stoughton. WRA: Haverlack, Shaw (3) and Dempsey. WP: Jenkins (2-0). LP: Haverlack. Lancaster Record: 11-3. Lancaster hosted Western Reserve Academy (Hudson, Ohio) during a night game at beautiful Beavers Field. WRA did an excellent job of hosting Lancaster during the Gales spring break trip last season, and Coach Smeltzer wanted to continue the relationship with Pioneer head coach Rich Hoffman. The game was great as Lancaster jumped out to an early lead and held on for a victory. Joseph Jenkins pitched a great game and the Gales had some timely hits from Kyle Studer, Sean Gorby, Kyle Stoughton, and Ryan Curry.

April 18, 2007
Lancaster 1 Groveport 3
Lancaster 100, 000, 0, 1-7-3
Groveport 000, 003, 0, 3-2-0
L: Strickland and Stoughton. Grove: Kendig and Holloway. WP: Kendig. LP: Strickland (0-1). Lancaster Record: 10-3 (4-2 in the OCC after the previous game versus Groveport did not have to be finished). Lancaster pitcher Jared Strickland was the tough-luck loser as he pitched a complete-game two-hitter and had two hits. A couple of offensive and defensive miscues led to Groveport's three-run inning the Gales could not overcome.

Lancaster 201, 300, 0, 6-9-2

Lancaster rode the strong pitching performance of Ryan Curry and outstanding defense by the Gales to defeat league-rival Gahanna. Collin Miller and Ty Evans paced the Gales at the plate with two hits a piece, while Curry was hit by a pitch three times and had 2 RBIs.

L: Swinehart, Jenkins (7) and Stoughton. West: Coughlin, Howard (5) and Mitton. WP: Swinehart (3-1). LP: Coughlin. Lancaster Record: 8-2 (2-1 in OCC). Lancaster started a challenging week by getting a strong pitching performance from Dane Swinehart and Joseph Jenkins to top the Westland Cougars. Dane Swinehart also led the Gales at the plate with two hits, while six other Gales got hits to bring home the victory. Hard work has paid off, and an amazing challenge exists, as the Gales were ranked 5th in the first Columbus Dispatch Coaches' poll released this week.
