In Memory of Doug Henwood - A Lancaster Golden Gale Through and Through
Doug Henwood, LHS Boys and Girls Track Head Coach, passed away on May 13, 2008. He coached for a total of 35 years at LHS leading the Gales to 8 Central District titles, 7 OCC Championships in 9 years, 9 individual State titles and also earning OCC Ohio Division and Central District Coach of the Year honors 6 times. NFHS Coach Education Program: Concussion in Sport – What You Need to Know
This 20-minute course is now available at no cost to the user and is available at http://www.nfhslearn.com/electiveDetail.aspx?courseID=15000. The course was designed for coaches, parents, officials and students to assist in recognizing the signs and symptoms of concussion and to take the appropriate steps to manage them.

Q. Is the Fundamentals of Coaching course a requirement for Ohio coaches?

  • Yes. All teacher-coaches, paid or volunteers, in grades 7 through 12 in Ohio are required to take the NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching course as a one-time fulfillment.

    All teacher-coaches, paid or volunteer, without a current Pupil Activity Supervisor Permit are required to complete the course by January 1, 2010.

     All teacher-coaches, paid or volunteer, with a current Pupil Activity Supervisor Permit that are renewing their permit any time after January 1, 2010, are required to complete the course at the time of renewal.
