October 24, 2009 - DISTRICT
TOURNAMENT
Lancaster 9th at 246
The Golden Gales Cross Country team completed
the 2009 season with a 9th place finish
in the Central District Championship. Jordan
Kempton led the Gales, finishing 38th on
the slow, rain-soaked course at Watkins
Memorial. The next Gales finisher was Patrick
Hinson in 46th, followed by Josh Thompson
in 51st, Curtis Ewing (54th), Daniel Moore
(60th) and Andrew Bireley in 85th. Michael
Hartman, McCray Wooten and Zach Shick competed
in the open race. Several Gales were unable

October 17, 2009 - OCC Ohio
Pickerington North 32, Reynoldsburg 42,
Gahanna 100, Lancaster 102,
Pickerington Central 134, Newark 165. Groveport-Madison
did not finish five runners. The Golden
Gales Cross Country Team finished 4th of
seven teams in the OCC – Ohio Division
team championship on Saturday. Jared Wentz
led the Gales, finishing 13th and earning
2nd Team All Conference Honors. Patrick
Hinson ran a personal best (despite sloppy
conditions) to finish 21st and earned All
Conference Honorable Mention. Josh Thompson
ran a season best time and was the third
Golden Gale finisher in 22nd place. Jordan
Kempton and Curtis Ewing completed the scoring
for the Gales finishing in 24th and 26th
place, respectively. Daniel Moore and Cody
Clanin also ran season bests to finish well
in the Varsity team race.

Invitational
Lancaster 9th at 253
The Golden Gales finished 9th of 14 teams
at Fairmont Firebird Invitational, Saturday
in Kettering. Top finishers for the Gales
were Jared Wentz, Jordan Kempton and Patrick
Hinson. Hinson and Andrew Bireley both ran
personal bests; Cody Clannin, Matt Connell
and Travis McCarthy also ran strong races

Invitational
Lancaster 18th at 480
Nine Golden Gale runners set new personal
bests as the Lancaster boys finished 18th
in The McGowan Invitational at Watkins Memorial.
Jared Wentz led all Gale finishers, followed
closely by Josh Thompson, Jordan Kempton,
Patrick Hinson and Curtis Ewing. Matt Connell
and Andrew Bireley both ran season best
times, while Freshman McCray Wooten, Travis
McCarthy, Michael Hartman, Zach Shick and
Dieter Schulte all lowered their personal
best times by over a minute. The
McGowan Division I race included all but
two of the top teams in our region; suggesting
the Gales are currently about 20th among
Division I schools competing to qualify
for the Regional Championship. To qualify
for the Regional Meet, the improving Gales
must finish among the top 16 teams in the
combined East-Southeast-Central District
Championship on October 24th. Click

Koksal signs with Slippery Rock
 Alex
Koksal has signed a letter of intent to continue
his Cross Country career at Slippery Rock University.
Alex was an All-District and All-OCC performer
for the Golden Gales. Slippery Rock is a NCAA
Division II school and competes in the Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference is ranked among the
top 20 teams in the nation this year. Click
